I’ll be heading out to my very first Norwescon today, and I’m looking forward to it! I’ve been invited as a pro, and will be on the following four panels:
Gaming & Community
Thursday 9 pm Cascade 3&4
Game communities have grown beyond small game clubs, web forums, and IRC as social networking has integrated with game companies – thereby creating even more game communities. Our panelists will discuss social networking and creating a positive community via chat tools, web forums, Twitter, Facebook, and 3rd party news/blogs.
Tim Nightengale (M), Burton Gamble, Tara Theoharis, Kate Merriwether Lynch
How to Sell Yourself
Friday 9 am Cascade 11
An artist needs more than talent to be successful. One must learn how to create a polished and professional image as well. You may have intelligence and creativity; but that isn’t enough! Learn how to not only create a portfolio, but how to put your own personal best foot forward when presenting yourself and your work to shops, galleries, and publishers.
Kate Merriwether Lynch (M), Claire Hummel, Tara Theoharis
Privacy in the Age of the Internet
Friday 8 pm Cascade 6
People today, especially young people, live so much of their lives on line. How do you draw lines between your personal and professional life? What constitutes “over-sharing” in this day and age? And when is it appropriate or not appropriate for private businesses, the government, and other citizens to harvest the data that exists out there about you?
Sonia Orin Lyris (M), Brian D Oberquell, Tara Theoharis, David Nasset, Sr.
New Media DIY: Video
Friday 9 pm Cascade 11
Webseries, video podcasts, etc – what you need, and how to do it
J.C. Gordon Granger (M), Tara Theoharis, Jesse Simpson, Ryan K. Johnson, K Wiley
I don’t know much about Norwescon, but it looks like there’s a fun mix of academic panels, crafty panels/workshops, games, and movies. Although my panels only run Thursday and Friday, I’ll be back down on Saturday to play my first game of Fiasco.
Are you attending Norwescon? Any tips or tricks for a n00b like me?
I was just wondering if any of your panels will be recorded and available to be seen online? The promotion one looks especially interesting. Good luck and have a blast!
I don’t believe so, but I’ll let you know if that changes!
