A Superhero Wedding

I’m getting married this weekend, so weddings have been on my brain. This week may be a bit slow with the updates as I finalize details, and the next three weeks will be very slow as I honeymoon with Mr. Geek (and we leave our phones behind)! So in honor, I wanted to post pictures from this charming superhero wedding I came across today:

No matter how elegant or traditional you want your wedding to be, it never hurts to add a bit of personality. Stay tuned next month for a couple posts on geeky details in my wedding, as well as tips and tricks to save you some stress when planning your own (or someone else’s) wedding!

Molecular Cocktails

Molecular Gastronomy has been catching on, but what about cocktails?

This book and kit, sold by Think Geek, will get you set to make foamy drinks, gels and capsules, and even a drink that glows in the dark. Sounds like a great way to liven up the next cocktail party!

More details on some of the drinks can be found in the video, below.

Aspirational Business Cards

An ad agency in Brazil worked with Red Balloon to create business cards for children based on what they want to be when they grow up:

RedBalloon Kids Business Cards from digous machado on Vimeo.

This idea is so cute, and not just something for children. How fun would it be to hand out a business card with your dream job on it? It would definitely be a conversation starter! I’m going to keep this idea in mind for an upcoming “When I Grow Up” party I want to plan (where guests come dressed as the thing they always wanted to be when they grew up).

My business card would probably say “Movie Star and Teacher”. What would you have on yours?

What Would Buffy Do?

I had the pleasure of working on this empowering Buffy-inspired music video. I got to do a bit of acting, as well as dive into my first experience as Craft Services. Feeding a hungry horde of vampires and teens is a tough job, but someone’s got to do it! My advice? Get healthy food that can sit out in the sun for a while, and be ok for vegetarians and gluten-intolerants to eat. And some fresh baked chocolate chip cookies never hurt as well!

Enjoy the video and feel free to share with your friends. It’s always exciting to see some kick-ass women out there!

SkyMall is Your Friend

While traveling this weekend, I got to partake in one of my favorite pastimes: Looking through SkyMall. And while they had all of their traditional over-the-top products, I noticed many items catering to the geek. Take a look at some of these:

Voice Activated R2-D2.

Harry Potter Artefact Box

Magic Wand Remote Control

Although these are still fairly overpriced trinkets, it’s exciting to see something other than dog steps or giant lawn sculptures for sale! When you’re traveling this summer, keep an eye out for SkyMall and see what other kinds of quirky treasures you can find.

You Are Better Off For Being a Geek

Alexandra Robbins (writer of Pledged and many other books) has just released her newest book, “The Geeks Shall Inherit the Earth: Popularity, Quirk Theory, and Why Outsiders Thrive After High School“. I personally can’t wait to read it.

Amazon states: “In a smart, entertaining, reassuring book that reads like fiction, Alexandra Robbins manages to cross Gossip Girl with Freaks and Geeks and explain the fascinating psychology and science behind popularity and outcasthood. She reveals that the things that set students apart in high school are the things that help them stand out later in life.”

Robbins’ books are entertaining and quick to read while giving you statistical and anecdotal insight into its different groups. I recommend checking this out. And if you know someone in high school, do them a favor and have them sit down with the book.

Available at Amazon.com.
