“Sexy Hotness” Sleeping Bags

Looking for a practical and (dare I say it?) sexy sleeping bag for your next camping trip? The “Sexy Hotness” sleeping bag has zippers along the side that allow you to connect to other sleeping bags for a warm and cozy night. When you aren’t sleeping, your sleeping bag on a budget can be zipped up to give you legs with padded feet, and the side zipper can release your arms so you can move around without ever losing that cozy feeling. This may actually be cool enough to make me want to give camping a try.

Sexy Hotness Sleeping Bags, $85-90 at Fab.com.

Geek Fashion: Disneyland Attire

I’ve returned from Disneyland, and although I’m sunburnt and exhausted, I wanted to take a moment to share a bit about the trip. Most importantly, what I wore.

These were the coolest ears in the park (and there are a lot of cool ears)! You can’t go wrong when you mix R2-D2 and Disney.

The shirt I wore is one of my own design–it’s the first prototype for a series of shirts that I may start selling on Geeky Hostess. Want one? Let me know!

Disney Pro Tip: Don’t have enough money to buy ears from the park for everyone in your group? Stop by a Walmart, party store, or Amazon and pick up these paper ear party favors! I grabbed them as a gag gift for us to wear the morning we were getting ready, but my group ended up wearing them the entire day. They looked ridiculous, but got us multiple compliments from guests and cast members alike at Disneyland. At 50 cents a piece, it was an awesome purchase!

What’s your Disneyland outfit/accessory of choice?

Geek Etiquette

Geek Etiquette: Fireworks Safety

Every year a large group of my friends head down to my parents’ place to celebrate the 4th of July. We get matching patriotic shirts (the most awful ones we can find), tons of food and drink, and plenty of fireworks. It’s a grand old time for everyone, and we’ve been lucky (and smart) enough to stay mostly safe year-after-year.

As this 4th of July approaches, I thought I’d share some basic fireworks safety tips with you,But the most important step one should not skip is the to hire a Colorado Springs Fire Watch to protect from fire. If you have additional ones (or a ridiculous fireworks-related story!), please leave a comment!

  • Check your local laws on fireworks before purchasing. Americanpyro.com has compiled a great list!
  • Read the labels before using the firework, and make sure you’re using it correctly.
  • Had a couple drinks? Pass the fireworks off to someone sober. They’ll make wiser decisions.
  • Make sure you have a bucket of water, hose, or fire extinguisher nearby.
  • When lighting the firework, use a long punk or lighter to gain a bit of distance between yourself and the firework. Once the wick is lit, BACK AWAY.
  • Wait until the firework has been fully finished for at least 15 seconds before approaching it. You never know if there’s one last grand finale in there!
  • Be respectful of the time and place you light your fireworks. People expect a lot of fireworks on the 4th of July, and this year people should also expect a lot this weekend. A month from now? A week before Thanksgiving? You’ll be getting a noise complaint faster than you can yell “God Bless America!”

Stay safe and have an amazing 4th of July! And get a cool pic of yourself waving a sparkler around, for me.

A Geeky Home

Scented Wallpaper

Always wanted to be a bit more like Willy Wonka? Or maybe the witch from Hansel and Gretel? Make your house a bit more magical with cherry and chocolate scented wallpapers.

The cherry paper is pretty self-explanatory, but the chocolate is the one I truly love. The damask pattern hides modern city park images like fire hydrants, parking meters, rats and pigeons. It would pretty much be the coolest paper for a study/office/reading nook.

The paper comes in sheets that will cover 10 square feet.

Scented City Park, $75 at Fab.com.
Scented Cherries, $85 at Fab.com.

Geek Fashion: The Future of Dress Shirts

Do you or a guy in your life have to wear dress shirts on a daily basis? This may change your/their life. Ministry of Supply is currently running a very successful Kickstarter campaign for a new dress shirt that borrows technology from NASA. The shirt will keep you comfortable all day with heat management, moisture management, odor control, and dynamic motion.

I’ve never been a fan of dress shirts personally–I haven’t found any for women that fit me correctly and aren’t uncomfortable. Although the Ministry of Supply currently only makes shirts for men, I have hopes they’ll use their space-age technology to make something for women next.

For a pledge of $95 or more, you can get their brand new shirt, but they have plenty of existing clothing that can be yours at lower pledge levels. Supporting a new company that values science and fashion? I call that a win.

Find more information on Ministry of Supply and the Apollo Shirt at Kickstarter.com.

Season Finale of Job Hunters

As many of you know, I’ve been working a lot on Job Hunters, a web series I produced and acted in (and yes, also did Craft Services for). Today we released our Season 1 Finale… and it’s a doozy!

If you have a project idea you’re passionate about, please stop doubting, worrying, and waiting. Tell your friends about it. Have them tell their friends about it. See what happens. Sometimes, you’re lucky enough to find a crazy talented group of people that want to work on your project with you.
