Ransom Cookie Cutters

I’m in love with these cookie cutters.

Leave a ransom note and a little treat for the victim at the same time! I’m thinking a note to Mr. Geek saying “Do the Dishes” may be in order. These would also be fun left on a friend’s doorstep with a cryptic message.

What would you spell out with these cookies?

Cookie Cutter set includes all 26 letters plus an ampersand and exclamation point. $17.99 at ThinkGeek.com.

Weddings

DC Comics Inspired Wedding

The couple decided to have a beach wedding.A beach wedding is an ideal way to enjoy a fun, easy & stress free wedding. Most beaches are blessed with stunning natural beauty that result in fantastic wedding pictures. A destination wedding at the beach is a great opportunity for your friends and family to enjoy a mini vacation during your wedding week. A destination wedding may reduce your list guest. Not only will this minimize overhead, most guests who decline will still send gifts! Many couples who tie the knot on the sand conveniently combine the wedding and the honeymoon. This is a wonderful cost saving option that may free up some money to put a down payment on a house or pay off some student loans. As per bride dream, the Myrtle Beach wedding officiant is the beautiful place to celebrate their wedding. The officiant had decorated the beach very beautifully to make the couple big day more rememberable.

This couple drew inspiration from Superman and Harley Quinn for their wedding, but in some unexpected (and very classy) ways.

The men are obviously decked out in Superman-inspired gear including personalised groomsmen watches, created by the groom himself.

The wedding colors of red, white, and black invoke the Harley Quinn theme, while the bride rocks a stunner of an engagement ring from Elegant Gems.  She says: “My dress was not geek inspired per-say, as I wanted a traditional look, however my colors for the wedding were based on Harley Queen (red and black) and my bouquet was red flowers with white bounce pearls to represent the pompoms of Harley’s collar and hat. My garter was superman colored with a small S logo on the bow. My engagement ring itself is based on the Harley Quinn diamond pattern, red rubies for the main diamonds and black diamonds around the edge.” Come and enjoy the original barn to the homestead farm that has been converted into a modern event space nestled charmingly in the best smokey mountain wedding barn in 2020.  The open air barn, the picturesque pond, and manicured fields are just part of what we have to offer here at The Enchanted Valley.

This shows that you can incorporate your passions into a wedding easily, and still have an event that won’t frighten the grandparents. Well done, Jessica and Jonathan!

(I seriously thought this pic was a rendition of them as action figures. They just look too perfect!)

Pumpkin Beer Cupcakes

Fall doesn’t start for me until I enjoy my first pumpkin beer. This year, I connected with Dikla from Have Growler, Will Travel, and we created our own pumpkin beer tasting event. Naturally, that meant I needed to create some pumpkin beer cupcakes. These cupcakes are moist, dense, extremely pumpkiny, and very easy to make. The recipe is based on one from Snappy Gourmet, with a few changes.

Pumpkin Beer Cupcakes

Author:
Ingredients
  • 1 box yellow cake mix
  • 1 cup canned pumpkin
  • ¾ cup pumpkin ale (I used Dogfish Head's Punkin Ale)
  • 2 eggs
  • ½ tsp cinnamon
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, cold
  • 5 TBS unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 2 tsps vanilla
  • 2½ cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tsps pumpkin spice (more or less as desired)
Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  2. Mix all ingredients together in a large mixing bowl.
  3. Spoon batter into cupcake liners until ⅔ full.
  4. Bake cupcakes for 19-23 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the middle comes out clean.
  5. Cool completely and make the frosting.
  6. Beat cream cheese, butter, and vanilla with an electric mixer until smooth.
  7. Add in ⅓ of the powdered sugar at a time, mixing until smooth.
  8. Add in pumpkin spice, mixing until fully blended.
  9. This recipe will give you stiff frosting that is easily piped onto a cupcake. Cut a hole in the bottom corner of a plastic bag, and fill with the frosting. Frost cupcakes then top with a quick shake of pumpkin spice.

Not in Germany? You can also order Kosher Chefmaster Edible Spray from Amazon in gold, silver, or pearl.

What would you cover with edible spray paint?

Happy Movember!

In honor of Movember, I made some mustache lollipops for the staff over at Bookr.

Movember is an annual challenge to men: Don’t shave during the month of November to raise money for prostate cancer and other male cancer initiatives. It makes for some very entertaining faces in the Seattle area, especially as the month draws to a close.

Can’t grow a stache? Make your own lollipops like I did with a mustache lollipop mold and some chocolate chips or candy melts, or support a facial-hair-grower in your life by donating to the cause.

More information is available at us.movember.com.

EDIT: Some of the Bookr guys sent over shots of them modeling the mustaches. So cute!

Dress Up Your Halloween Candy

Let’s face it: tomorrow you’re going to have a lot of candy to deal with. Whether you’re hoarding from the trick and treaters, you have left overs from a party, or you took advantage of the 1/2 price sales, you’re going to need to do something with all of it. So why not make it pretty? Put it out at your next party and people may not even know you’re serving them old candy.

I heard you liked chocolate, so I covered your chocolate bars with chocolate. Also, sprinkles make everything better.

Don’t stop at chocolate! Cover your fave fruity candies with candy melts. These Starbursts are covered with a vanilla flavored coating. The sprinkles let guests know which flavor they’re about to eat.

Peeps. Love ’em or hate ’em, if you put a stick in them and cover them with chocolate, they will get eaten.

Have a Happy Halloween, and enjoy all the candy, whether it’s dressed up or straight from the wrapper.

Geeky Pumpkins

Geeky Hostess readers are amazing. Just check out these geeky pumpkins they’ve created:

Pacman pumpkin by Steve and Shannon (and the prompt for this post!)

Triforce pumpkin by Tom Nord

The Corinthian (from the Sandman series) by Emily Allen. “Though, lit up in the dark, it looks more like a troll face,” she says. Either way, it’s geeky and awesome!

The 10th Doctor pumpkin by Katie. If I had any artistic talent, I would try to make this myself.

It’s not too late to let them inspire your pumpkin designs! What are you planning to carve into your gourds this weekend?
